That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life – whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food and your body more than clothing? Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to Him than they are? Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, He will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith? So don’t worry about these things, saying, what will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear? These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and He will give you everything you need.
. . . it is good that the heart be established by grace . . .
God doesn’t want our hearts full of worries and fears, tossed and turned by every challenge that comes our way. He wants our hearts at rest and established by His grace toward us.
I faced a very challenging situation this week. My car was stolen. I didn’t want to write about it earlier because it would have been out of anger.
Was I angry? Yes! Was I angry at God? No!
I was angry at the whole situation. I was disappointed in the person who stole it. I was sad, very sad, that my car got stolen 24 hours after getting it.
It just made me realise again that what happens to us doesn’t change the foundation of God’s Word. The truth of His Word doesn’t change based on our circumstances. Our circumstances can change because of our faith in Him. His plan for us is good (Jer 29:11) Jesus came to give us life in abundance (John 10:10)
My joy comes through conviction of knowing who God (really) is. I cannot reconcile the fact that we can sing “God is good all the time” and testify to that, but when bad things happen we say He is testing us. When we realise how good God is the automatic result will be faith in Him. How can you trust someone when you don’t know whether His intentions are good or bad? God is only light; there is no trace, no trace, no trace of darkness in Him.
James 1:17 (Amplified)
Every good gift and every perfect (free, large, full) gift is from above; it comes down from the Father of all [that gives] light, in [the shining of] Whom there can be no variation [rising or setting] or shadow cast by His turning [as in an eclipse].
James 1:17 (The Message)
Every desirable and beneficial gift comes out of heaven. The gifts are rivers of light cascading down from the Father of Light. There is nothing deceitful in God, nothing two-faced, nothing fickle.
1 John 1:5 (The Message)
This, in essence, is the message we heard from Christ and are passing on to you: God is light, pure light; there’s not a trace of darkness in him.
Get back to reality….
You cannot tell me anything about bad realities. I deal with realities of people on a daily basis. That’s why we are called to be the salt and light of the world. We need to give people hope.
You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavour? You are the light of the world – like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.
O taste and see that the Lord [our God] is good! Blessed (happy, fortunate, to be envied) is the man who trusts and takes refuge in Him.
Be merciful and gracious to me, O God, be merciful and gracious to me, for my soul takes refuge and finds shelter and confidence in You; yes, in the shadow of Your wings will I take refuge and be confident until calamities and destructive storms are passed. I will cry to God Most High, Who performs on my behalf and rewards me! Selah [pause, and calmly think of that]! God will send forth His mercy and loving-kindness and His truth and faithfulness. My heart is fixed, O God, my heart is steadfast and confident! I will sing and make melody. Awake, my glory (my inner self)! I will praise and give thanks to You, O Lord, among the peoples; I will sing praises to You among the nations. For Your mercy and loving-kindness are great, reaching to the heavens, and Your truth and faithfulness to the clouds.
I choose TRUTH over reality. Jesus said “I am the way, the TRUTH and the life…” I choose to look to Jesus in this situation. He doesn’t bring or allow the storm, He calms it. I believe in miracles and I still believe that it is possible that God will bring complete restoration.
Call me naive…
I call it faith like a child…
